Tropfest Tumblings
I went to see the Tropfest last night at the local cinema (thank god for the Regional Digital Screen Network - so I thought I’d give you a run down of the movies.
Ascension I thought this was a really good movie, the production qualities were great - and the story line really made you think. Good inclusion of the signature item (the number eight) 8/10
Beggars Belief Quite a macabre comedy about giving someone the taste of their own medicine, quite funny. 6/10
Blues for the Soul Documentary about how music can affect someone’s life. Unfortunately the production and ‘stillness’ of the movie made it seem boring and flat. 5/10
The Code Very funny story about precocious kids who decide to try and cheat on the test. Nice bright colours, great story and production. 7/10
Dusk I really didn’t get this film, it seemed to be very oddly put together, with scenes not really flowing, and the pretense of the story seemed very unusual. 5/10
Fault Seemed to be the token animation, didn’t really do it for me. Didn’t use the 7minutes wisely. 5/10
Glass I really liked the production, acting and editing on this one. In those terms, it was an excellent work. However, I felt the story to be too drawn out - and the attempt at being psychological was squashed by the shortness of the film. 8.5/10
Great White Hunters Very interesting documentary, apparently made the news where it was made. I would have preferred a bit more ‘drama’ in the movie though. 7/10
Looped Very interesting, I really connected with the stories. Production and cinematography complimented the movie greatly. 9/10
Made in Australia Very funny, Australians love to laugh at ourselves! 7/10
Marry Me Personally, I don’t think this should have one. Charming and well made, yes, but a winner, maybe not. 7/10
Mouse Race! Charming story with good acting, although not my cup of tea. 6/10
Scab Very typical fast paced, and odd, Japanese movie. Interesting to say the least. 6/10
Smitten Interesting story that makes you think, nice presentation. 6/10_
Uncle Jonny Very funny writing, great production and great cast 9/10
White Lines Funny spoof of the parking infringement officer. Great acting, and very good editing to look like most modern day cop films. 9/10
